My weekend opening for Taylor Swift!

Tuesday July 13,2010

Two months ago, I was told that I would be opening for Taylor Swift at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival in PEI.  At that time, reality hadn't hit me.  I was excited but, nothing could prepare me for what was about to happen in the stunningly beautiful small town of Cavendish PEI.

The day before the show, I started packing and preparing to fly out the next morning (day of the show).  Our flight was at 6:40am so, I knew I wouldn't be sleeping much.  Although, I did try to have some shut eye, reality started to kick in and I got up, drank a tall glass of water and said to myself, "ummm, tomorrow my band and I will be opening for Taylor.  Ok, we are opening for Taylor.  Tomorrow, we are going to be on the same stage as Taylor.  OH MY GOSH WE ARE OPENING FOR TAYLOR SWIFT!!!!!!!!"  At that point, I made my bed, turned on the tv and realized, there was no sleeping for me that night as my heart was beating a mile a minute.

We arrived in PEI at noon.  Drove to our hotel, had a 1 hour nap,

into hair and makeup and we were off to the festival site.

The atmosphere of the festival was happy and exciting!  Country fans

are like no other.  At some points, it had been pouring down rain.

They didn't care.  I think they would have stayed in the crowd if it were raining bumble bees!!

At 7:30, it was time to take the stage.  My band was vamping my first song "Taste of the Good Life" (a song I wrote with Kelly & Tebey on the last record).  I was actually in my dressing room trying to take in what was about to happen, when I heard my band playing, while then realizing that it was time for me to sprint to the stage!  I was completely outta breath by the time I made it to the stage.

And there they were. In front of my mic stand:  30,000 people!!!

I looked back at my band and said, LET'S GIVE'ER!!  And we gave'er.

That night, I had the time of my life on stage, in front of 30,000 screaming people.  What an experience.  What a thrill.  What a memory.

After the show, a sweet girl that worked for Taylor approached me and said, "Tara, Taylor would like to meet you".  I stumbled on my words and said, "are you sure?" hahaha.

Jon, Justin (my bands guys) and I walked over to Taylor's trailer.

She came out and ran down the stairs straight to me and gave me the biggest hug, as if I had known her all my life.  She then greeted Jon and Justin.  I was blown away by her beauty for one and her sense of "I'm no big deal" nature.

For being one of the biggest stars in the world, you would NEVER think she was who she was.  I've met my share of celebs but, Taylor was by far the most down to earth, sweet, humble and fun girl I've ever had the opportunity of meeting.  It wasn't a surprise to me that she was this way because, you can tell that she is this way when you see her on tv and so on.  She is truly so genuine and comes from an incredible family who has raised her to be, Taylor.

Thank you to the Cavendish Beach Music Festival for having us two years in a row.  We hope to see you guys next year!!!

Catching Up!

Monday September 28,2009

Hi everyone!

What a summer!  What a September and next month it's going to be, "What an October!!"

The guys and I had an amazing summer of touring the country playing the outdoor festivals!  We all learned a lot and cannot wait to do it again next summer!

We will be having a very special Newfoundland & Labrador tour in October!!!!!  We kick it off October 19th and tickets are now available so, hurry up and go get one or two or sixteen if ya want! :)

Right now, I'm staying with CDJ in Nashville.  I'm here writing my second album and the weather has been beautiful so far!  I'm SO excited to write this second album because I feel like I've grown not only as an artist the past year but, as a person and there have been some very inspiring changes in my life that past year and a half.

Recently, I became involved with a wonderful campaign called, "Because I Am A Girl" (Plan Canada).  This campaign is to spread the word to help girls around the world who are living in poverty.  Our goal is to provide them with education, health care, better living environments and so much more!  To help spread the word, please go to www.becauseiamagirl.ca to sign the online petition OR to make a donation! :)

CCMA'S BABY!!!  On September 13th, it was THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!  My dream came true!!!  I had won the award for "Rising Star" at the 2009 Canadian Country Music Awards!!!  I did not prepare a speech and did not think I was going to win AT ALL.  I know my team and I have worked extremely hard this year but, I was just thankful to be nominated.  Thank you to my fans, my team, my family and yes, Jack, Gerty and Phoebe (my pets) for giving me the greatest year of my life!!!  THANK YOU!!!!!

Well, I'm just in the midst of planning my NL tour stuff..picking what our set list is going to be and what I'm going to be wearing so...I'm signing off for now.

See you guys on the road ok!

Tuesday July 14,2009

Hi guys,

so, it's literally 5 days away from the Salmon Festival in Grand Falls/Windsor, NL!!!

I had a dream last night that I went on stage in a boat.  As in, the guys and I rowed ourselves onto the stage in a little row boat! lol..weird.

I can't tell ya how excited I am.  Not only will I get to be HOME but, this will be the first time that my band and I perform together on home turf.

I'm super excited to possibly meet Newfoundland's own, DONNIE DUMPHY!!!  My bass player Justin (who is from Newfoundland) introduced me to Donnie on Youtube and by the lord tunderin', he is hilarious.

So, Donnie, if you so happen to read this, DUDE YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

Tim (my bf)  will be coming down with us as well!  He's been to NL before but, not like this.  I think it was a hockey thing or something.  It'll be fun to show in my hometown and it's his birthday weekend too!  Can you say, SCREECHED IN????!!!!!

SUNSHINE & SUMMER TIME!

Wednesday July 8,2009

Hi everyone!

So, it's been quite a while since I wrote a blog but, I haven't been able to sit and compile my thoughts in a while.

We finished the CMT tour a couple weeks ago and went right into kicking off the summer festivals.

Our first one was the Country 95.3 Canada Day Jam in Toronto!  The guys and I shared the stage with Marshall Dane, One More Girl, Amanda sweetheart Wilkinson, Jason Blaine and Emerson Drive!  The forecast called for thunderstorms but, it was ALL SUNSHINE!  Thank you to everyone who came out that day and supported all of the acts.  HAPPY 142nd Birthday Canada!!!

I want to say a Congratulations to my beautiful friend Sam Cook for her new job as a full time professor at Mohawk College.  I'm gonna miss hearing that cheerful and fun voice on the radio.  Love you Sammy and no crying!!! =)

This past weekend, we played the 20th Annual Dauphin Country Music Fest with Doc Walker and Tim McGraw.  Man, do country fans know how to have a great time!!!!  Rain or shine, you guys were there for the music and that's why I love what I do so much!!!

This weekend, the guys and I are heading to play the Cavendish Beach Music Festival in PEI!  We are sharing the stage with TIm McGraw once again and cannot wait to be in the east again!!!

THE SALMON FESTIVAL IS APPROACHING FAST!!!!!!!!!!  This will be a dream come true for me to play at this festival in Newfoundland.  I don't care if it snows, WE ARE GONNA HAVE A PAAAAAAAAAAARTY! =)

Right now, I'm writing new material for the 2nd record.  Kaci Bolls  (writer of Fly GIrl) is coming to visit very soon and we will have the chance to write together again!  Can't wait for that!!!!

I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE NEWEST ADDITION TO MY FAMILY!!!  JACK PHOENIX ORAM!  My little baby Netherland Dwarf Bunny!!!  He is the sweetest thing and is my little Angel.  My family now consists of Gerty my hamster, Phoebe my cat and Jack my bunny!  By the end of the year, I think I'll be able to open my own petting zoo!

Update From The Road

Saturday June 6,2009

What's up everybody?  Today, or now, oh yesterday we were in Winnipeg, and it was extremely cold, but the enthusiasm from the fans made it so hot. haha... We were able to go to a HANK FM backyard BBQ and hang out with some fans, Marie and Ed Ziesmann.  They had a lovely backyard to host a backyard BBQ, and I tried pulled pork for the first time, and I had some coleslaw and chilli and a coke, and I had a cookie with my face on it!  Before Winnipeg we hit Regina, and we played at the Pump, and Mark the owner was so awesome and he took us all out for dinner at Silver's steakhouse. Silver's has the best pasta, and bread pudding, and their steak was Grade A.  Also, my friend Matt Rapley came out to visit me which was a huge surprise - Matt was on Canadian Idol with me.  So it was so great to see him and catch up on old times.

The funniest thing that happened this trip was when my Dad came out to our Calgary show, and I announced that my Dad was in the audience and by the end of the night almost every person in the bar had bought him a shot and he was a little drunk.  And boy can my Dad ever do the newfie jig - you can see numerous pictures of him on Facebook.

Tonight we are playing in Thunder Bay - it's so great to be back in Ontario.  I've been feeling a little lost lately because I don't know where any of the roads go to.  Kristal and I were able to grab a little bit of a tan today, and it was a lot of fun.  Thanks Kristal for helping me organize my life.  We are off to Little Current, ON, tonight, where we will have absolutely no cell service or internet, but that's ok, cuz we'll have some in Toronto.  We'll be busking for charity on the corner of Yonge and Gould at lunchtime so be sure to stop by.

Well, I will try and get another video blog up as soon as possible, but I can't wait to see you guys in London, Kitchener, Oshawa, Barrie, Sarnia, Ottawa, Cobalt, and Halifax.  Until next time, keep fit and have fun.

Love,
T :)

Midway to 30!?!?!

Monday April 20,2009

Hi guys,

so...I'm freaking out a little bit..

Next week, I'll be turning 25 which means, I'm almost 30!!!!!!!!!!  It's so strange typing that because I think of myself at 12 still!  I mean, who else has the pillow & blanket set of Hannah Montana & HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL at my age!?!?!

As much as it scares me to turn the big TWO FIVE, I do feel blessed with all of the things I have accomplished thus far in my life.  Turning 25 is only going to give me a push to do bigger and better things! =)  (I wrote that to make me feel better...it's not workin' lol!)

This past weekend, my band and I played in Burford, Ontario!  It was my first time there (what a sweet little town with fantastic people!!!).  The beautiful Sam Cook hosted the Country Life Expo and it was SO awesome to see her.  She celebrated her Birthday the day before so, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAMMY!!!

We played 10 songs and had a big ole PAAAAARTY!  Thanks to my band, Kevin, Sam, Jill, Alex, Michelle and YOU THE FANS for an awesome show!!!!

My newest single, "GO TO BED ANGRY" is now at country radio!

CMT ON TOUR TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE!!!  Visit cmt.ca for dates and details!

Hi guys!

It's post Juno weekend and I have to tell ya, IT WAS AMAZING!

I flew in last Thursday and I slept a total of...well, I don't know how many hours I slept but, I HAD A TON OF FUN!

If I had to describe the weekend with one word, it would be INPSIRING.

I performed a show for Juno Fest at the Shark Club in Vancouver.  It was a great night and I once again shared the stage with my boys DOC WALKER!

Congrats to DOC WALKER for taking home the Juno for COUNTRY RECORDING OF THE YEAR!!!  There was no one more deserving than you guys!!!

On Saturday, I took part in the Juno Fanfare.  We signed for 1 hour and met some really great fans.  SO GOOD TO MEET YOU GUYS!

After fanfare, I shot my very first magazine shoot for FLARE Magazine.  SO COOL!  I will be featured in the July issue which will be on sale June 1st.

That night, we attended the Juno Awards Gala.  It was a beautiful dinner and there was CANDY IN THE BATHROOM!!!!  NO LIE!!! CANDY!!! IN THE BATHROOM!!!!

Sunday was the big night!  My hair was done by GARNIER & my makeup was done by MAC.  Thank you to both for your outstanding work!

I'd like to thank Mark Lash for allowing me to wear his exquisite diamonds.  THank you to GUESS by Marciano for the beautiful dress and shoes and to my stylist Carlo!!!

During the awards, I was fortunate enough to the present the Fans Choice Awards presented by PEPSI to NICKELBACK!  Allie (the fans choice presenter winner) did such a great job!

After the show, our label held a dinner at a restaurant called Glowbal.  Half way through the dinner, I noticed a few familiar faces sitting in the restaurant.  IT WAS THE CAST OF TWILIGHT!!!!!  I was too shy to ask for a picture but, I thought it was extremely cool that they were there.

It's Wednesday night and my friend Michelle & I are heading on a vacation to CUBA on Saturday for a week!!!  It's gonna be so much fun!!!  I'll keep you guys posted!

Love you guys so much!!!!

News!

Wednesday February 11,2009

Hi everyone!

It's Wednesday, February 11th, 2009!  I'm at home today with Phoebe & Gerty.  I have so much catching up to do with my new apartment so, today is my clean up, organize and decorate day at home with my kids.

We shot Karaoke Star Jr. this past Sunday in Toronto.  IT WAS MADNESS!!!  There was almost 2000 kids at Vaughn Mills on Sunday and I was fortunate enough to meet a lot of the kids.  Danny and I were in HMV signing for a few hours and it was a ton of fun!  GOOD LUCK to you all!!!

I also just came off of a tour with Doc Walker!  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUN!  Our last show was in Sault Saint Marie at the Essar Centre arena!!!  What a fun show!!!  I learned so much from those guys and it was an honour to share the stage with them so, thank you to all of the awesome crew and Doc Walker for having Tyler, Andrew and I on the road with you guys.

JUNO NOMINATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is all I have to say.  I got the news last week when I was in Ottawa.  I was lying in bed and Jill & Ron called me to break the news.  I nearly passed out and I sounded like a little girl screaming for the Jonas Brothers!!!!  I cannot tell you how much this means to me.

When I was a little girl, I made a fake Juno award out of a little cardboard box.  I even made the winner's envelope to go with it!  So, you could imagine how excited and thrilled I am to be nominated.  I would like to thank my family, friends, my team of people who allow me to do this, country radio, CMT & YOU THE FANS!

Hope everyone is doing great.

To my friend Josh Smith & all of our Troops overseas, we are always thinking of you guys and thank you for what you do. xoxo

Love you all so much!!!

Wednesday January 7,2009

Hi everyone!

HAPPY 2009!  I really hope everyone had an awesome and safe holiday. =)

I'd like to start off this blog by sending my prayers to my Poppy Cooze.  Love you.

I was able to spend the Christmas holidays with my family in Newfoundland.  The first day I was home, I took out our ski-doo and took it out for a little run.  There wasn't that much snow but, enough for a short ride.  The next day, it rained and washed all of the snow away!!!!  Grrrr!!! Overall, my family and I had a great time and it was a Christmas I won't forget.

Next week, we are hitting the road and travelling across Canada to find the next KARAOKE STAR JR!!!  We begin shooting in Vancouver and end in St. John's.  If you are between the ages of 6 & 15, please audition!!!  It is going to be so much fun and not only will you be on tv but, you can win $5000.00!!!!!!!!!!  Hope to see ya there!

I'll also be on tour with Doc Walker in January and February across Ontario.  GET YOUR TIX NOW! =)  Gonna be fun fun FUN!!!

Great Big Give at MTV

Saturday December 6,2008

Hi guys!
It's Sunday and it's the day after the Great Big Give event at MTV.  For those of you who haven't heard of this event, it was a benefit concert to raise money for Daffodil Place in Newfoundland.  Daffodil Place provides accommodations, programs and services for cancer patients who must be away from home to receive the treatment they need.  To make a donation and for more information, please visit www.DaffodilPlace.ca

The night was hosted by the incredibly funny Mary Walsh. I just love listening to her speak. She's not only funny but, extremely intelligent. I walked in the front doors and was greeted by the most beautiful Newfoundland Dog "Aussie" and the evening started off with traditional Newfoundland sounds by The Scones. They were so great and got me dancing in my chair! Great Big Sea took the stage at 9:45 and the brought on the Paaaaaaaaaaaaarty! There were many familiar faces in the crowd and the night was filled with fun, laughter and as we danced the night away, money was being raised for a great cause.

A huge thank you goes to Smiling Land for putting on such a great event. Smiling Land hosts one large fundraiser annually to benefit a different Newfoundland and Labrador charity every year. Thank you to Paul Sparkes for all of your hard work and to Alan Doyle and the guys in Great Big Sea.

Maple Leafs!

Wednesday November 26,2008

Hi everyone!

What's up?!  How ya doin'?!  How are things?!

A dream of mine came true last night you guys.  I grew up watching Hockey Night in Canada with my Dad.  My Dad and I have always been the biggest Toronto Maple Leafs fans.

Well, last night I sang the anthems at the game.  It was Toronto vs Atlanta.

I was lucky enough to actually walk through the Leafs bench and my goodness, those guys are HUGE!  Let's just say that I wouldn't want any of those guys to check me on the ice.  I'd be crushed into a million pieces!

I made my way onto the ice and not only did I get to sing the anthems but, joining me on the ice was the cast of SLAPSHOT 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They got to drop the puck but, there was no way that those guys were getting of the ice that easy so, I made them stand with me and sing the anthems.  Thank you to those guys for being so fun!!!

After the anthems, Jenn (from my management) went to our seats and watched the game.  Although the boys lost 6-3, the game was awesome!  Jenn and I had a great time!

Oh and guess what!??!?!  My Uncle Dave and cousin Dave were sitting in the audience!  It was such a coincidence because they didn't know I was going to be there.  They actually flew up from Newfoundland that day to watch the game for my Uncle's birthday.  It was so great to see them. =)

On another note, 538 Stars has officially hit the CMT airwaves!  Thank you guys so much for your requests.  I can't say that enough.

CHRISTMAS IS AROUND THE CORNER!!!!

Loves yas!

SEDI Awards

Friday November 14,2008

Hi guys!

My yesterday was so much fun!  In the morning, we did a performance at the XM Satellite radio studios and CMT brought my sunshine Casey to shoot a piece for the Chevy countdown as well!  Too fun!  We actually performed a Christmas song because as you all know, IT'S AROUND THE CORNER!!!!!!  AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Later that evening, I was invited to the SEDI Awards (Social and Enterprise Development Innovations) to present an award to Sue Watts, from Brockville, ON, who was presented with the award for "Impact on Youth".  The Runner up was Brian Smith from Montreal, QC.

It was such an informative night and for almost four hours, I absorbed so much useful information regarding our economy.  Jill and I felt as if our brains were on overload by the end of the night! lol..It was so great to sit and listen to the speakers.  We learned so much!  It was such an inspirational night.  Congratulations  to all of the winners last night!

OH!  I'm not sure if I mentioned this yet but, I'M GOING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Ya, I'm a little excited!  I hope there is snow on the ground because I will be taking the ski doo out for a good ole trail ride and to Mr. Rex Goudie, aren't we supposed to have a race???  All I'm saying to you Mr. Goudie is....BRING IT ON SKIPPER!

Love you guys!

The Latest

Sunday November 9,2008

Hi guys!!!

I'll start this blog by saying "THANK YOU" to everyone for buying my album and for your continuous support.

For the past few weeks, I've been out on the road across Canada promoting the album and meeting some of you and it's been so much fun!  I can't wait for my tour to begin and I will keep you posted as to when that will be.

Last week, I received four pairs of amazing shoes/boots from SKECHERS (thank you!).  I'm a huge fan of comfortable shoes and these are not only comfortable, they are cute as well!  What more could a girl ask for?!?!?!

So, have a guess what I did for Halloween?!? NOTHING! LOL!  I was supposed to go to a really awesome haunted house but, I became so sick with the flu that I could barely get out of bed.  There is something icky going around and I don't like it! Especially when I don't have my Dad around to make his home made chicken noodle soup!!

I've come to the conclusion that I will never get a decent picture of Gerty (my hamster).  She's so hyper all of the time and she never stays still long enough to grab a pic of her!!!  I'm not giving up! lol...

GUESS WHAT!!?!?!?!??!!?  My second single, "538 STARS" was just shipped out to radio!!!  I'm so excited about this song and the video will be out very soon!  I can't wait for you guys to see it.  Oh wait, I can't wait to see it because I haven't seen anything yet! lol..

I hope everyone is doing great.

I'm sending out my warmest wishes to our Troops overseas.  My friend Josh Smith is in Afghanistan right now and we're all praying for his safe return home.  Make sure you guys wear your Poppies and remember those who risked their lives for our freedom.  God Bless our Troops and our Veterans.

Luv yas!

Travels

Thursday October 30,2008

Hi everyone!

It is 1am on Monday morning (really it's Sunday night..).  I just got home from the airport and it's still 11pm Calgary time. I'll have to get adjusted to the time change considering it was my first time out west WEST. =)

I had such a great time.  I arrived in Calgary last Sunday and met up with my Mom & Dad.  We went out for dinner and met up with my Uncle Bruce and Aunt Marina for dinner at Swiss Chalet!  Our fave!

Monday was time to hit the road.  We visited Calgary radio and television, then headed to Red Deer and then Edmonton.  I also played a few fan contest shows.  This was awesome because it was my chance to finally meet the people who are out there supporting me day after day!  Luvs it!!!

Alberta is quite a beautiful province with incredible people!  Thanks to all of country radio and television for their warm hospitality.

When the promo stuff ended on Wednesday, I was able to get a later flight for Sunday so that I could hang out with my family for a few extra days and BOY WAS IT AWESOME!

I went up to Banff with my family and we had such an amazing time.  I have some video footage that I will upload very soon!

As for right now, I'm EXHAUSTED!!!!!

Good night for now you guys.

Fan Song Contest Winner

Wednesday September 17,2008

Hi everyone!

I want to start off by saying a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who submitted a song in my "Fan Song Contest".

My reason for holding this contest is because I wanted to give someone the opportunity for their talent to be heard and I hope more signed artists will eventually do the same! =)

Again, thank you to everyone for your hard work and keep chasing your dreams!

And the winner is......JEFF CALLERY for his song, "THE CALL".

Here are a few words from Jeff and the reason for this song.

"This song was inspired by a good friend of mine who was killed in combat in Afghanistan in April of 2006. Until that day, the role and history of the Canadian Armed Forces was intangible to me. Symbolic and proud, but intangible.

November 11, 2006 was the first time I had ever really been connected to our Forces heroic past, dynamic present and important future. and like everything else in my life, I had been unable to express the emotions I had felt - so I wrote "The Call" with the help of my wife Paula and our kids, Tegan and Gabrielle.

It's kind of funny, but if you ask my children what I do for a living, they would likely say that I get dressed in a suit, go out for lunch and come home in time to make sure the homework and chores are done. They might also say that sometimes, I get to go out and play music for a bunch of people and have a great time. either way, not a bad way to spend a working life.

Shortly after we got word of what happened to my friend, they asked me that if someone could choose to do what I did, why would someone choose to do what soldiers did? Why would someone put themselves in dangers way for others? Why would someone go so far away from the ones they love to protect people they didn't know? I didn't have an answer. so we wrote the song.

I still don't have an answer. But I'm grateful to God that there are people who can answer that question inside themselves and answer the call."

Peace and God Bless,

Jeff
